Evaluation
I started
preparing my college magazine by taking many pictures using a small compact
cannon camera. I went to many different areas of the college e.g., the streets,
canteen, library, gym, field and many more. I had done this to ensure that I
have a good variety of pictures in different places to choose from for my
magazine. I took a couple medium close ups of someone reading a book which I
used for my front cover, this was done to make sure all eyes was on the model
and what she was doing (work related). I made sure her college pass was showing
to show that she attends Leyton College, which is who the magazine was aimed at,
making it more relatable to them.
I learnt
quite a bit on how to use Photoshop and its key functions such as adding rulers
to a new page, image manipulation where ctrl T is clicked then shift is held
down to resize it. This I done to make sure the image don’t look stretched or
pixelated whiles its being resized. I also learnt how to create layers instead
of everything on one and also how to unlock them. For my magazine the page
layout would have the masthead at the top (LSC Daily) but either behind or next
to my model, I did this because she is more important than the masthead and all
eyes should be on her and not the masthead overwhelming the front cover. I
added cover lines on the left and right hand sides of the front page, putting
information that I believe will draw the college students to want to read more
of what’s to come inside. I used InDesign to make my contents page which I
found slightly trickier than Photoshop but eventually got the hang of it, I
used many of the pictures I took on the contents page to make it look colourful
and appealing. I tried to use a consistent font and colour scheme throughout so
it looks professional.
To improve,
I think I need more practice using InDesign as it did take a while for me to
finish my contents page and still didn’t look as good as I wanted it to. Also
to plan what I want each page to look like beforehand so I’m not struggling to
with Ideas to start with. I think that I should’ve spent less time taking
pictures and used it on making my magazine as I had limited time to create it. On
Photoshop I think I could’ve shown more skill in my cover page as it looks a
bit plain and amateur. Also, chosen a better font style if I had more time.
To develop
my student magazine to my music magazine I would spend more time planning and
preparing before I start and less taking unnecessary pictures. Also, I would show more skill and
professionalism on both InDesign and Photoshop for a finer finish that I’m
satisfied with. And lastly I would do a lot of research on the genre of music
I’m doing to ensure I’ve got every element of it portrayed I’m my magazine.
